WAYSIDE SCHOOL
Wayside School was a three or four piece jam band that played its first show on September 17, 1998 at 101 Armory in Champaign and its last show on December 13, 2000 at
the Canopy Club just down the street in Urbana, IL. The standard lineup featured
Jon Harper on guitar, Tim Rimbos on drums, and Tom Perona on bass and vocals. Jim LeFager played percussion intermittently throughout the band's existance and Matt
Cullen joined at the tail end of the School.
Tom recorded a lot of Wayside School shows. Many of them are audience recordings, but during
the last few months we were able to make several high quaility soundboard
recordings.
Wayside School recorded one full length album that was packaged and sold at
shows. The band's self-titled record was recorded on four-track at the White Street Laboratory,
and Funk Patrol started off the album. Funk Patrol was a conceptual piece that was the soundtrack
to a defunked 70's sitcom/cop drama about two officers that are straddeling the line
between good and evil. They're known around town as the Funk Patrol.

A second album was attempted, but never completed. The band recorded rhythm tracks
and scratch vocal tracks for twelve songs from February
through November, 2000. Eventually, TP plans on
completing The Problem With Bill, but an adequate restoration would
require the original master tapes transferred to a format I can
access and manipulate. That task will require some effort and motivation,
qualities of which Tom is in short supply. Nonetheless, Outside the Outside World,
a track from the unfinished sessions, came closest to completion.

The following songs were recorded in May 1999 on four-track at the White Street Laboratory by Jon and Tom.
These are early Wayside School tapes, but they capture a good moment in time.
